Slipknot plans Silence at Sonisphere

A Heavy Metal and Hard Rock festival is likely to be one of the loudest places on earth so any attempt to create a silence at these events is a major issue. It is unlikely to ever truly happen because of the mass amount of people milling around but in front of a stage, the drop in volume should be extremely noticeable.

Early silence at the festival

Even though Slipknot are headliners of the Saturn Stage at the festival, the silence will take place at 2pm in the afternoon and it will take place across all of the stages and arenas at the festival. The fact that the silence is taking place so early in the day gives it a better chance to be respected but it does seem a bit odd.

It is good to show respect

It is no doubt a nice way to mark the memory of Paul Gray and pay respect to the music he created with the band but surely it would be better to carry out the silence during the Slipknot show itself. This would suggest it is more of a festival issue than something the band are behind.

It is also fair to say that many Metal fans have no interest or passion for Slipknot so it will be interesting to see if the silence will be observed across the festival site. There is also the fact that many people will probably be unaware of the silence and will be wondering what the hell is going on.
